Chaga, also known as "Čaga", is a Siberian tinder fungus that grows on birch bark. It is unique for its immense resilience, never rotting or becoming mouldy, and is protected against grazing. The white colour and resilience of birch bark, which has anti-cancer and anti-mutagenic effects (approved EU claims), is caused by the triterpene Betulin, which is converted by Chaga into the substance Befungin used in some medicines. Official Russian medicine has been using Chaga since 1858. To enhance the effects of detoxification and regeneration, it is advisable to limit the intake of meaty and fatty foods, canned foods, and smoked meats.
