Brain and mood
Brain chemistry is very complex, its optimal functioning depends on many nutrients and is sensitive to metabolic imbalances. If such an imbalance occurs, many symptoms may appear. Neurons communicate with each other using a variety of chemical “messengers” called neurotransmitters; and this communication – as well as the growth and survival of the neuron itself – is modulated by locally acting proteins such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Changes in neurotransmitter levels and absorption have been observed in conditions of stress and mood changes, leading to the development of drugs that manipulate neurotransmitter levels. The fact that these drugs take effect slowly and are relatively ineffective has led to research in other directions, and it has recently been found that changes in BDNF and related factors may be very important. It has been shown that bioactive substances in saffron strengthen neurotransmitters and BDNF.

Saffron
Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world. Saffron is grown in many parts of the world, and because harvesting and processing are done manually, in most cases it must be treated with heat or radiation before further processing due to the presence of various microorganisms, including pathogens such as E. coli. While these procedures limit microbial contamination, they also reduce the amount of bioactive components, thereby reducing the quality of the product. Spanish Saffron is different! Spanish Saffron is also harvested by hand, but thanks to a special method of cultivation and harvesting, it does not suffer from problems caused by microorganisms and therefore does not require radiation treatment. This means that all bioactive substances remain present in the saffron, and the extracted quantities are higher.

Affron®, next-generation saffron extract
affron® is extracted from the stigmas of Spanish saffron using a technically advanced manufacturing process that ensures a broader profile of bioactive ingredients. During this process, the extract is standardised to contain at least 3.5% of the bioactive component Lepticrosalides®* along with a large amount of the following two main active substances: safranal (0.03–1%) and crocins (3.48–8.0%); it is this high content that distinguishes affron® and its effects from all other saffron extracts on the market.

*Standardised using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a procedure that allows the identification and quantitative determination of each of the bioactive substances. affron® is certified for 100% DNA Crocus sativus L.

Bulking agents (pre-gelatinised maize starch, cassava beta-cyclodextrin), magnesium extracted from sea water, vitamin C from acerola extract (Malpighia glabra), saffron stigma extract (Crocus sativus), anti-caking agents (stearic acid, rice hull extract and rice concentrate), vitamin B complex from ground buckwheat sprouts (Fagopyrum escelentum), potassium iodide.

Recommended daily dose: Children over 4 years: 1–4 tablets daily. Adults and children over 12 years: 1–8 tablets daily. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.
